Altar Commemoration and Celebration of Life for our beloved MoChaCha, NasBah, Hips-don’t-lie, PIC, Daughter of the Sun, sister lover and friend: Monique Sanderson-Mata.

Monique was a special soul, a bright fire who chose to shine bright to see and be seen. She touched the lives of so many across the southwest, including here in New Mexico.

It is most appropriate that we host this at El Chante: Casa de Cultura, home to so many beloved memories and art shows with Monique.

We will open with a prayer and close with a candlelight vigil at sunset. We will build an Altar and hope to have an open mic for anyone who wants to share their music, poetry, words, stories, memories, tears and laughter. Please bring whatever feels appropriate for you to honor her memory.

Although this is an in-person gathering, we will follow Covid guidelines with hosting the event outside, asking everyone to wear masks and maintain social distancing. We will also figure out how to broadcast online for those unable to attend in person.

The time frame is set for five hours so you can come by whenever is most convenient for you and also allow for traffic to fluctuate throughout the day.
